Guilds are always recruiting. Why should I join?
Simple question is this: What are the benefits of being in a guild vs not being in one? (pve player)
None of my characters are in a guild because I honestly don't know the unspoken rules about being a part of a guild. What kind of commitment you are responsible for, what kind of restrictions I have, what strings are attached and stuff like that. Is there any bad experiences with being in a guild? I'm sure there's good ones, but can anyone share those as well? |

I only have good experiance from guilds.
Benefits are a close set of friends, people to help with quests/titles/missions and people you can talk to without all the less desireable people that walk the streets of GW if your trying to talk in Local chat Maybe its because my guild is small but really nice and helpful i feel its best but i'm sure some people must have bad experiances |

Just like JeniM said:
Being in a good guild: 1. can help you find people to help you with quests 2. a place where you can bring friends or make friends which in turn can make the game more enjoyable 3. a place to discuss game changes, builds, price check, or have fun However: Don't join just any guild. There are guilds that are built with no foundation or planning. Some people try to "farm" guilds by getting members, then selling it off to someone else to take over as guild leader (not that this is profitable or rampant). Avoid the guilds spamming, IMO. Avoid the guilds that PM you with invites. Play the game. Talk with people. Help with info or quests if you can. You may find someone who's guild you would like to join. Another route is here on GWG. There is a forum for people to find a guild. Post a thread there listing your Profession, your progress, your time available to play, your future prospects of playing GW, and what you feel you can bring to a guild. |

Also... like in my guild.
We have contests, games and give-aways! I'm an officer in my guild (Disciples Of Rage [RAGE])... and I held a Hide-And-Seek event. Simple rules... I hide in any city and any American dis in Proph. First person to find me wins 10k. Where else can you get 10k without doing any kind of farming |

I could tell you of some of the very rare but extreme things I've heard happen in other guilds, but I don't want to talk you out of missing out on something that makes the game much more enjoyable - partying up with your guildies and going out stomping through missions and stuff!! joining a guild is a very personal choice. You must decide if you want some of the benefits that have been described....once you join a guild you are also free to leave at any time--dont feel pressured into staying in one that maynot be what you were looking for.
It is not necessary to be part of any guild to play the game, and many many people have created their own guilds (some just to get the recruiters off their backs)....so you can decide if you wish to participate, if not and what level of involvement you wish to have with your guild if you so choose to join one. |

My guild is also very small. We are close friends and relatives...we have two sets of families with three generations playing. Since we are small we are not your typical guild that does gvg or has big contests but there is a lot to be said for having quality friends to do your missions and quests with.
We never recruit, if we play with someone and they fit well we will discuss with them if they want to join. We have had some really good luck with super people and we have had a few bad experiences with leeches. My suggestion would be to play with people, get to know them and if you have fun with them and your playing styles work well together then consider joining their guild. That is of course unless you are interested in the whole gvg aspect of the game...how to choose one of those guilds would be better answered by someone else here. I love the hide and seek game AngeloM3, my guildies and I were talking about that just the other day, sounded like fun. |

There are tons of benefits to being in a good guild. It is also very easy to leave.
I have been in several and left of my own accord because I didn't fit in and also because they were falling apart. Get to know some people and agree to join their guild (do not join with the people that spam). Let them know you are trying it out, they can kick you out too, so it works both ways. If you feel the need to leave, tell the leader you are leaving and thank them for letting you be a member. People come and go from guilds all the time. It's no big deal. |

I have been in pvp only, pve only, pve & pvp, lol my first guild ever was a farming guild (dont ask me how I end up in there). My current guild just had its 1st birthday last friday, it was nice when the members turn up for the party. It is a big guild with 60+ members, and sometime you do have an E-drama. But I had a great time in all of my past guilds.
The best thing to do is check out the recruit forum here in guru, there are lots of nice guilds in there. Or better yet you can post about yourself, what you're looking for, what you like to do in game etc. Don't join those guys that spam in town and such, most of them are not.....very good. Do watch out for some guild, as they will ask you for stuff, gold and never help you with anything. When you do join one, see if the members are happy, see if the guild chat and allies chat are always active. And most of all see if they will come and help you with missions, quests when you ask, reply back to you when you ask somehting. Well I do hope if you decide to join a guild, your experience will be as good as mine. |

Since you are a PvE player, I'll leave the PvP part. My first guild was a group of real life friends, benefit was being able to play with them and chatting together when they were not in my team. I changed to my current guild because my earlier guild was too inactive. I was just looking for a more active group to have fun with and play together. Also, when you play together a couple of times, you learn the strengths and weaknesses of each other, so you can make better teams. This is for most 'generic' guilds. Our guild decided to specialize in Hard Mode and make an alliance with a DoA guild. Specialized guilds are closer to PvP guilds and focus on a limited area of the game. When you join those, you join them for the goal. I know our guild and our alliance guild don't have any restrictions. You can play whatever you want whenever you want, however we do like people to team up together. You don't join a specialized guild when you like to solo-play. We, as many other guilds, do offer some benefits to our members, but common goal is our main benefit. The OP title starts "guilds are always recruiting...". For our guild, this is not true. I'm the recruiting officer of my guild and I only recruit (on two forums) when our guild gets below a certain number of players. Because of our goals, we need a certain number of players to make sure we can get a couple of teams running. Our officers do recruit ingame, but only when we played with someone and have a good feeling about them. You won't see me shouting in LA/Kaineng or Kamadan for new players. |

Just as is true with people, no two guilds are alike. That's a good thing, with a little effort you can find one that suits the way you want to play the game.
Some guild are fairly strict - times scheduled for practices, a certain amount of faction has to be farmed each day or week, and requirements on how active you must be. That may sound horrible to some but other players may like the seriousness of the guild and the kind of players it attracts. Other guilds are little more than a way to have a cape. There's nothing wrong with that either - it's just what some players want. Most of them fall somewhere in between those two extremes. If you spend a little time with a guild before joining - ask to be allowed to participate as a guest - it'll quickly become apparent whether you fit in. |
